Social Value

Social value is at the core of how we operate The National Lottery

Creating social value is the bedrock The National Lottery is built on, delivering money to good causes, and helping communities thrive across the country.

But social value goes even further than that for Allwyn. As the operator of The National Lottery, we plan to create additional social value through our social and environmental commitments in the way we operate our business and engage with our partners.

Our social value framework is profoundly embedded in all our plans to grow The National Lottery. It informs every aspect of our business, including how we design and build new lottery products, operate our business, collaborate with stakeholders and report on our progress.

Our Social Framework

Safer play

Player safety is our top priority. We want people to enjoy The National Lottery, and to do so in a responsible way. You can find out more about our approach to Safer Play here.

Protecting the planet

We have already started our journey to build a net zero National Lottery, collaborating with our partner Planet Mark to certify us as we go. We're committed to eliminating all emissions under our control by 2030, and minimising greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and value chain. By 2030, we'll also eradicate single-use plastic from The National Lottery and its supply chain, promoting a circular economy.

Empowering people

We are making all parts of The National Lottery inclusive – whether you play a game in a store or online, if you’re a retailer who sells lottery games or however you come into contact with The National Lottery.

As one example of this, we're working to remove barriers for customers with disabilities, in partnership with Purple, a leading advocate for improving the customer experience for disabled people. Purple has helped us enhance our physical and online environments, policies, and practices for a more inclusive experience.

This commitment extends to our workplace, where we strive to create one of the UK's most inclusive environments, promoting the well-being of our team. As a responsible employer, we are a signatory of the Mindful Business Charter.

Prosperous places

We aim to build thriving high streets and communities, adding value through our relationships with independent retailers and National Lottery Distributors. We will work closely with them to support their own social value journeys, aligned with the priorities above. We are also committed to supporting small and medium sized businesses within our own supply chain.
